Every figure below comes from the UAE labour law and its executive regulation. Our guide to working hours and overtime walks through the same rules with examples.
Take the basic monthly salary, divide it by 30 days, then by the 8 hour working day set in Article 17 of Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021. Allowances stay out of it. That hourly figure is what every overtime rate is applied to.
Extra hours add at least 25% to the hourly wage. Between 10 pm and 4 am, or on a rest day, it is at least 50%, and shift workers are outside the night rate (u.ae, Article 19). Work on a public holiday is paid the same way, or swapped for another rest day.
During Ramadan the working day drops by two hours, so hours past that count as overtime (Cabinet Resolution 1 of 2022, Article 15). Overtime itself is capped at two hours a day, and total working time cannot pass 144 hours in any three weeks.
