Eid Al Fitr 2027 in the UAE is expected to fall on Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March. It is a three-day public holiday that marks the end of Ramadan. The date stays provisional until UAE moon-sighting committees confirm it, usually 1 to 2 days before the holiday begins. If you plan leave or payroll, treat the dates below as a strong forecast, not a locked schedule.

This is one of the two Eid holidays in the UAE public holidays 2027 calendar. Once weekends are factored in, it is usually the longer of the two, so it tends to be the busiest leave period of your year.

When is Eid Al Fitr 2027 in the UAE?

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, based on astronomical calculation. Eid Al Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, immediately after Ramadan ends. The exact length depends on when the Ramadan moon is sighted, so there are two outcomes to plan for.

• If Ramadan lasts 29 days: the Eid Al Fitr holiday runs Tuesday 9 to Thursday 11 March, which is three days.
• If Ramadan completes the full 30 days: UAE rules add an extra public holiday day. That extends the break to Friday 12 March, four days in total, which joins the weekend for a six-day break.

Neither scenario is confirmed until the Ramadan 29 moon sighting closer to the date. The UAE government portal (u.ae) confirms the 30-day extension as standing law. It does not publish specific 2027 dates ahead of the moon sighting, so we label them provisional here.

Is Eid Al Fitr date fixed or does it move?

It moves with the moon, and it cannot be shifted for convenience. Unlike New Year’s Day or UAE National Day, Eid Al Fitr cannot be transferred by Cabinet decision to create a longer weekend. Its date is set entirely by the Hijri calendar and the confirmed moon sighting, not by any administrative decision. In practice, that means you cannot assume a long weekend until the date is announced.

What this means for UAE employers

Eid Al Fitr is one of the two peak leave periods in the UAE calendar, alongside Eid Al Adha. In the 2027 forecast it lands mid-week, and a mid-week Eid usually pushes more staff to request extra annual leave on either side of the public holiday. For HR and operations teams, that comes down to three things:

• Roster coverage. Confirm your minimum staffing for 8 to 12 March before you approve annual leave. This matters most in shift-based operations like retail, hospitality, construction and manufacturing, where one absence is harder to cover.
• Payroll cut-off. UAE banks close for the Eid period. So any WPS salary submission due around 9 to 12 March should be processed earlier, not on your normal cut-off date. Work the deadline backwards from the first holiday day.
• Attendance reconciliation. Staff called in to work during Eid Al Fitr are entitled to a compensatory day off, or additional pay of at least 50% above the basic rate for the hours worked. This is set out in Article 28 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021. Log it in AED against actual attendance records, not as an estimate after payroll closes.
